Celine, The Modern Chanel.

Celine, The Modern Chanel.
...and the 2013 resort collection.
by Julian Mack

When someone asks me how do I described my personal style, I always reply, "resort."  I am most definitely the shirt unbuttoned type and I love the unpretentiousness and ease of resort season.  Never to compare two iconic brands, but next to Chanel, Celine has slowly become my favorite women's luxury brand, and the resort 2013 collection was by far my favorite of the season.

I call Celine the modern Chanel, not necessarily because of the inception of the lines, but more so because of the times that I fell in love with them.  Celine creative director, Phoebe Philo, surely resurrected the line back from its Michael Kors' creative directorship days.  Donned with monochromatic whites and blacks with pops of navies, oranges, greens, maroons, leopard and polka dot prints with a shot of fire engine red, Philo stayed true to the demure and relaxed occasion.  The wide-legged trousers, easy skirts and dresses made in sheer fabrics makes the line read easy, delicate, lovely.  Aren't all those the things you think of when you think of resort?  Philo used a beautiful color palette to create a luxury line and kept it youthful with contrast, juxtaposition and leather. Relax and loathe at Celine Resort 2013 Collection.
