Sartorial Editorial: Print Re-Mix.

Print Re-Mix
...and how to get Les' Looks.
by: Julian Mack

The Fall 2012 Fashion RTW season brings high anticipation to what we will be wearing when the weather turns again.  We saw a manipulation of silhouettes from Givenchy and Rick Owens-per usual and bold colors from Diane Von Furstenberg and the likes, who tells us color-blocking was not just a one-season fad-it is everywhere this fall.  But it was the bold prints from Burberry Prorsum and Alice + Olivia, among others that made us want this season to come much faster.

These brands showed retro sensibilities in the wide leg pant and pencil skirt and infused them into very modern looks by mixing and matching bold prints.  Contrast is one of my personal style quirks, because there is nothing more classic than juxtaposition. Man/Woman, Black/White, Red/Green Classic/Modern, Vintage/New...Re-mix.

These contrast looks are fairly simple to achieve.  The key to the mixing and matching bold prints is to make sure that your prints and pieces have at least one thing in common; whether its in color, color pallet, tonality or texture.  You want to create a story with your look through the choices you make in either color or fabric, or maybe both.

Fashion Analysis, Look 1; Derek Lam x Top Shop, mix of prints with shared color-Navy, Look 2; 10 Crosby x Minkpink, mixing prints with shared pallet, Look 3; DVF x Tibi, in DVF color-block inspiration, I styled this look with pastels, giving a shared pallet story.   A pop of color, with that color only being used only once is also a way to add classic modern glamour to les' looks.
